KINETIC WATCHES

KINETIC WATCHES

A Kinetic Watch is an analog quartz watch equipped with an inbuilt automatic power generating system.

The rotational motion of an oscillating weight by the movement of the arm is converted into electrical energy and that energy is stored in a rechargeable battery and used to power the watch. A rechargeable battery is an eco-friendly battery. Unlike a disposable battery such as a dry battery or button battery, it can be used for a long period of time by recharging and discharging the energy repeatedly.

A Kinetic watch comes with a Power save function.  When the watch is left unused for a certain period of time, the hands automatically stop moving to minimize energy consumption. The watch comes back to its normal functioning once is watch is used again.

In the power save mode, there is a Time Relay Function, that when the hands stop moving, the built-in IC continues to calculate the time. Swinging the watch gently from side to side several times will move the hands again and the time relay function will automatically display the current time.

Kinetic watches have an Energy depletion forewarning function. The second hand jumps in 2-second intervals as below.

It is a sign that the energy stored in the rechargeable battery is reduced to an extremely low level. In this condition the watch would run down in approximately 12 hours.

Depletion of power in the secondary battery in most of the cases is caused by insufficient wearing time of the watch as it needs swifter hand movements for its oscillating weight to turn and charge the secondary battery. In modern life style the movement of hands even for youngsters is limited.

How to Charge a Kinetic Watch

Please swing your watch to rotate the oscillating weight as shown in the illustration below.

When the hands stop operating, swing the watch from side to side 300 – 500 times at 2-reciprocations per second, should give sufficient charging to the battery, and the second hand start moving normally at one second.  After the second hand starts to move at 1-second intervals, wear the watch on your wrist. The watch is charged by the movement of your arm, it is recommended to wear it continuously for optimum performance.

A periodic overhaul service is recommended. Watches that generate power by charging do not need a periodical battery replacement. If a watch is used for a long period of time, the current consumption may increase caused by deterioration of the lubricating oil, dirt or wear of interior parts. In order to maintain your watch in good condition, periodic overhaul is recommended once every three years.

Daily care: Kinetic watches do not need a periodical battery replacement, however your watch is in constant contact with your skin; moisture, sweat and accumulation of dirt can damage your watch. Please wipe off the watch carefully with a soft cloth or turn the crown without pulling it out from time to time to prevent rust and corrosion
